Ian Poulter joins Renault DP World F1 Team for Official Virtual F1 Race
Can the Postman deliver for Renault DP World F1 Team?
Golf legend Ian Poulter will race for Renault DP World F1 Team in this weekend’s first Official Formula 1 Esports Virtual Grand Prix, partnering the team’s Test Driver, Guanyu Zhou.
Briton Poulter and Chinese-born Zhou will represent the team on Sunday for the Virtual Bahrain Grand Prix, aimed at allowing Formula 1 fans to continue watching racing throughout the current race postponements.
Both drivers will race remotely from their own simulators competing against 18 other racers formed of current Formula 1 drivers, Reserve drivers, junior members and celebrities from the nine other teams.
Five-time Ryder Cup winner and DP World Global Ambassador Poulter has enjoyed extensive practice of the Bahrain International Circuit on his simulator in preparation for the race and received some tips and tricks from current Renault DP World F1 Team driver pairing, Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon, on how to navigate the 5.412km course.
Zhou enters his second season in FIA Formula 2 this year, which was due to begin this weekend in Bahrain on the Formula 1 support programme before its postponement.
DP World and Renault F1 Team announced a partnership in Melbourne, Australia, on 11 March 2020 making DP World the Global Logistics Partner and Title Partner of the team. Under the partnership, teams from DP World, Renault Sport Racing and Groupe Renault will leverage the F1 global marketing platform and collaboratively explore opportunities to increase the efficiency of their supply chain.
The Virtual Bahrain Grand Prix will be broadcasted live on Formula 1’s social media channels from 20:00 GMT on Sunday 22 March.
